Some Mendocino buildings do not need to shout for attention. This one just sits there in the fog, dark wood, red door, garden patio and all, looking like it has been waiting for somebody to notice it.

Overview

The building at 45104 Main Street is now home to Fog Eater Cafe, a small vegetarian restaurant with its cafe entrance on Albion Street and its wine shop entrance on Main Street. Fog Eater's official site continues to list the business at this address and describes the adjoining Fog Bottle Shop as a wine bar and bottle shop offering wines, flights and small plates.

But Fog Eater is only the latest chapter at this little Main Street building.

One community memory adds an earlier and very different use for the building. A local resident remembers this address as her doctor's office in 1975. No independent historical record has yet been found identifying the doctor or confirming exactly when the building served as a medical office, so that part of the story should remain identified as a community recollection rather than established fact.
