Meyer Family Cellars
45156 Main Street, Mendocino — An ocean-facing tasting room for the Meyer family's Yorkville Highlands winery, across from the Headlands trail.

Some Mendocino storefronts are about the building, and some are about what the view does to the business inside.

Meyer Family Cellars fits neatly into the second group. Its Mendocino tasting room looks west toward the Pacific and sits directly across from an entrance to the Mendocino Headlands walking trail, giving a relatively small commercial space a setting that is hard to duplicate.
Overview
Meyer Family Cellars operates its Mendocino tasting room at 45156 Main Street. The winery currently describes the space as having a modern interior, rotating local artwork and an outdoor Wine Garden, with the ocean and Mendocino Headlands just outside. It is currently listed as open daily from noon to 5 p.m.
The tasting room is one part of a larger family wine business centered in the Yorkville Highlands. Matt Meyer, son of Silver Oak co-founder Justin Meyer, and Karen Meyer run Meyer Family Cellars, producing wines from several Mendocino County and Napa Valley appellations.
Location
The building stands at 45156 Main Street on the western end of Mendocino village, close to the Headlands and next door to The Chocolat Haus. The winery itself emphasizes the location as a place where visitors can taste wine while looking toward the Pacific or take a bottle along for a picnic nearby.
History
Meyer Family Cellars grew from a much longer family connection to California wine.
Matt Meyer was raised around Cabernet Sauvignon through his father, Justin Meyer, one of the founders of Silver Oak. In the late 1990s, Matt and Justin began looking north of Napa for property suited to Syrah and eventually purchased land in the Yorkville Highlands. Matt and Karen Meyer later developed the family winery there, producing wines from Yorkville Highlands, Anderson Valley and Napa Valley vineyards.
The Mendocino village tasting room represents the coastal end of that story. By 2022, published travel coverage was already describing Meyer Family Cellars at 45156 Main Street as the Mendocino offshoot of the family's Yorkville winery, with a modern tasting room and garden overlooking the coast.
The Building Today
The storefront itself had other lives before wine arrived.
Business-directory records identify Mendo Spark LLC at 45156 Main Street, with an opening date of 2010. The listing classified it as a tobacco retail business and continued to associate that business with this address.
A community memory adds another layer to the building. At one time, a hairdresser worked upstairs, serving local families while enjoying what was remembered as a particularly good view. That detail is a useful reminder that this Main Street property has not always been only the ground-floor storefront visible from the street.
The exact sequence of all the building's earlier occupants remains an open part of the story. Old telephone books, business directories, property records, photographs and more community memories may eventually fill in the gaps between its earlier commercial uses and today's tasting room.
Why It Matters
Whatever business occupies the building, the Pacific has always been part of what makes the address special. That combination of a small village storefront and a wide ocean view is exactly what has kept this corner of Main Street in use.
Community Memories
One reply remembers having a hairdresser upstairs in the building who cut hair for several members of the family. The strongest detail in the memory was simple: the upstairs had a great view.
